I wanted to write about the Boston Marathon earlier this week and put out my condolences to the families of the victims. But my disposition got the better of me and I deleted what I had wrote. My heart is very sad to see the media talking more about the suspects than the victims. I am going to try to explain what is in my thoughts about terrorist and why we should stop advertising who they are to the public and take away their publicity. It is the same thing as what happened with 9 - 11, and other acts of terrorism against democracy. What do you think would happen if we talked about the victim more than the terrorist. The victim would get more publicity and the terrorist would fade quietly into the past with out everyone knowing their name better than that of the victims. It seems to me that the terrorist want to go out in glory with the media constantly repeating who they are. I want to know more about the courage of the bystanders more than the chicken $#!% that planted a bomb and then ran from it to save himself. The bystanders will be living this nightmare for a very long time trying to understand why someone would want to hurt or kill them. They are the heroes that I want to hear from and about, the ones that went in to assist the injured and the families of the victims. I want to hear about how good of a person the victim was or is and what they did for a living, not the person who only thought of themselves. I believe that if we concentrate on this more than the way it has been going, the next terrorist will remain nameless and go down in history with less glory than they are getting now.
So, let me ask you this question, who do you want to hear more about? The victims or the terrorist?

It seems like everyday something great happens. Sometimes you have to look for what it was that was great to see it. Today, I got the opportunity to meet Rick Harrison from the TV show Pawn Stars at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet. We took a couple four pictures of him and then posed for a professional photographer with him as well. I was quite surprised to see he was of real average size and to be honest he seemed a little shy or reserved, but very polite to say the least. The picture from the photographer is said to be ready to pick up from them for free so that it did not take up too much time and hold up the line. But,..... thanks to being a student, I could use the excuse that I needed pictures for my blog assignment. So with the help of my wife, she shot some photos real quick and then ran up to Rick for a hug. Simple as it may seem, it was still pretty cool to meet him. Can't wait to see what tomorrow can brings.

log 12 Interview
Hey everyone,
It has been an interesting week here in Instructional Services. I was able to interview Dale Rusche about his position here at Washburn University and how he likes it. The reason I interviewed Dale was because of an error that I made in doing my home work for Mass Media Boot Camp, I thought I was supposed to do a video of something we care about just to find out that it had to be audio instead video. Now I asked him several questions ahead of time and when it was all said and done we had 3 minutes and 30 some seconds recorded to put in Podcast. Funny sometimes how you go to do something and end up doing way more than you expected to. But nothing was lost as I did learn a few things in the process. So if you find yourself in my shoes just try to get the most out of it and try to remember that you do not have to do it but that you get the chance to do it. Got to look for the positives in life to keep us going forward.
Have a Great Weekend and see you next week.

Have you ever felt torn between what you have to do and what you want to do. Yesterday I finally got my Harley out of the shop and was able to bring it home just before five pm on Friday. I have not had a chance to ride since the beginning of last fall on a beautiful traditional ride to Casaday, Ks. There were more than six of us riding down the highway when for no particular reason my drive train failed on me about 10 short of making it to our destination. We all stopped to see if it was something simple to fix but it just would not go anywhere very far as the clutch plates and the transmission both disintegrated inside the primary case. So I called my wife to get my truck and come get me on what was supposed to be a relaxing day riding along the scenic highway. About an hour and a half went by before the guys came back from Casaday and my wife showed up with my truck. It was a warm day sitting there in the sun on my motorcycle waving at all the bikes that went by. Yeah, that day fell off a cliff as far as I am concerned but it sure felt good to ride again yesterday. As soon as I get the other homework and chores done I am planning on going again today, I hope.

The weather is changing and the grass is starting to green which means that lawn mowing season is coming up quick. I always feel a sense of pride after I have done my yard work and step back to see a clean and manicured landscape. Most of the elm trees are budding right now and you can tell by the little bulbs that keep falling off of them. Even the oak trees are starting to show signs of life again as the left over leaves are beginning let loose from the branches. I have one of the flower beds raked free of leaves but now will have to do it again as the strong south winds keep blowing leaves from around the neighborhood back into the garden. Oh well, that just gives me more reason to be around the house and enjoy the weather. I hope that you are enjoying it as well.

Log 9 Easter
Could you ask for anything better than this beautiful day for Easter?
Today my family and I went to the park across from the Gage Zoo and had a great couple of hours just doing what we pleased. Of course I had to fulfill my commitment on doing my assigned homework for other classes like the rest of us. It is such a relief to have your assignments complete before the weekend is complete. Now that all of this is done, I am going to sleep very well tonight.
Thanks again for tuning in and see you next week.

Log 8 Can you believe it? Really? Wichita State!!!!!!!
With the slowing down of games to produce it seems that lack of things to talk about are amazing. Who would have thought that the Wild Cats and Jayhawks would both lose out only to see our last hope for Kansas to be anchored at Wichita State? I do not know much about theses guys but am cheering for them all the way to the finish. God Bless!
Still working on finishing up the edits for the past few months games along with class room recordings but am looking forward to the new seasons.

Ahhhh! Spring Break! What a wonderful feeling not having to think so much.
And now all of the Washburn Lady Blues are enjoying this break as well seeing how they were defeated in the first playoff game of the finals tournament against Emporia State University. So I guess that when spring break is over, we will be putting all of the production equipment back into storage until Volleyball and Football seasons open up.
I think the hard part here for me is going to be able to find more to write about in the Sports Production field. I am still filming some instructors teaching their classes and doing medical instructional videos about hearts and collapsed veins using Color Doppler radar along with other types of x-ray equipment. Along with this, we were also doing live interviews for Dean candidates. In doing these kinds of things of an everyday basis makes me feel closer to Washburn University as a student and employee. I know that I am very grateful for the Professors at Washburn, for they have gone above and beyond in helping me stay involved and upright through the courses I am taking. Thank You!

This was a very interesting week concerning the Sports Production Crew, just as we are ready to store equipment for the off season the Lady Blues make it to the finals and they decided to hold the playoffs at Lee arena. This set off a whirlwind of events around the campus. These playoffs have never been done here before and since this is new, it was not covered in contracts of who would be, if anyone, producing the game footage. So most of this week was getting prepared to do the games just in case we were needed. That consisted of trying to find enough of the crew to cover eight games in three days over the start of spring break when most people have plans to go somewhere. As the deadline came closer and closer anticipations went high and then died as the call never came to do the production. But, this did make some eyes open up to the fact that this could happen again and if it does we have been told that we would have the privilege of doing the games. So until next year, keep practicing and we will see you on the court.

Well sad to say that the basketball productions for this season have come to a close. And now I have the chance to get caught up on editing and saving the games. It is really interesting to see what you have had the ability to create and then change the areas where you have not done so well when directing. A good feeling comes with the thought of people watching what you have had a part in creating.
We have gathered up all of the equipment and will check it over to make sure it is operational before we store it until the next season of football and volleyball begins. But that does not mean that I have nothing to do till then. We get to do recordings of lots of different kinds of needs as well. Like for in-class recordings or presentations and things like this that can't be accessed easily or often. And doing this, I get to learn as it goes on many different subjects. To me this is a win win situation.

Welcome back to Sports Production!
It has been an interesting ride to say the least in the basketball frenzy. The last home game for the Lady Blues and Washburn Icabods was played out last Saturday in Lee Arena. The normal crew that does the sports production for Washburn was out ranked by the Niles Media Crew from Kansas City who produced both games back to back live on Cox Channel 22. I was honored to be apart of that crew as they needed utility helpers. My job was simple but took a lot of attention through out the night.
The games played last night were physical to say the least. Tempers even flared some during the intense exchanges with the ball. All of our players can be very proud of their hard work and efforts. I am very impressed with the sportsmanship that the our teams displayed even when they were clearly provoked. This makes me proud to be an Icabod.

Hey all,
This week we decided to not have a full production of the Lady Blues and Icabods vs. Kearny, Neb. Since most of the athletes live on campus there was no reason to cancel the game for this Thursday. I must say that someone was thinking on there feet when the opposing team showed up on Wednesday night due to the incoming snow storm expected. So instead of running a full production on the games, we just set up one camera to cover the game remotely and just streamed it live over the cable TV. It was safer than asking everyone to come in to cover the game. This game was very important to both teams as everyone is trying to make the playoffs coming at the end of this month. Right now the Lady Blues Basketball team is sitting comfortably in first and the Icabods are in a tie for third place. Depending on wins and losses to come, there maybe a conference game at Lee Arena in the beginning of March.
Hope to see you in my viewfinder at the game!

Well these last couple of weeks have really been jam packed with activities. Just keeping up with class homework and learning more about editing film with a part time job has been enough to keep me busy. But let us not forget the four different basketball games over the last two weeks that had to be produced and edited to be broadcast showing off the Lady Blues team along with the Icabods playing games at Lee Arena.
I feel as if all of this activity lately has been a test to see how much I can handle and enjoy at the same time. Now I am not a person of a lot of words but lately it seems like things are beginning to flow out of me and I am becoming more relaxed in sharing on the different blog sites that have been recently made. I am in hopes of becoming more familiar with learning how to blog and sharing the interesting happening that are occurring lately.
So please stay tuned to see more from me as time permits. Thanks for reading.

When I started here at Washburn, I was wondering how things might turn out after four years of college. During my first semester here, someone came into Mass Media class fishing for students that might be interested is doing sports productions. This sounded really intriguing so I took the chance and applied for the job. It has been a great time since then. I have learned how to do many things that go into a quality production. Plus I get to see a lot of great action covering the games that I love. I am very proud of the athletes that make Washburn a name in the media. I have always enjoyed taking pictures of any number of things from bands at night clubs to still black and whites. This is a long time passion that I have always had and it feels great to be behind the camera again.
